Does UAB send secondaries to everyone? ›

MINIMUM/BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

For AL residents, applicants with above average academic performance with a 493 or 494 total score may be invited to submit a secondary application.

According to AMCAS data, 55,188 applicants applied during the 2022-2023 cycle. On average, each applicant submitted 18 applications, which comes out to a grand total of 990,790 total applications. For top-tier schools, you can expect the acceptance rate to be around 1%.

Interns (sometimes referred to as first-year residents) are doctors, but they may only practice medicine with guidance and supervision. They traditionally wear short white coats to signify their status as interns.

Medical students do not have doctoral degrees (unless they got one before starting medical school) and should not refer to themselves or each other as “doctor”.

Most schools are on rolling admissions, so the sooner you complete your primary and secondary, the sooner you are eligible for an interview. You should submit your secondary applications within 1-2 weeks of receiving them. That said, don't rush, as you risk compromising the quality of your responses.

The University of Mississippi School of Medicine is widely considered the easiest medical school to get into due to its abnormally high acceptance rate. The school has boasted an acceptance rate of 53% over the years (currently 43%) and has relatively low minimum GPA and MCAT requirements.

The third year of medical school is by far the hardest, current and former med students will almost always agree.

You either need to have an active license or be covered by an exception. One exception is if you are licensed in another state (or even another country) and you do not represent yourself as someone practicing medicine in California.

People training to become medical doctors are given different titles as they progress through training. They begin as medical students and then progress to interns, residents, and fellows. Once residency and fellowship trainings are complete, a person can become a board-certified attending physician.

A fellowship in medical training salary is very similar to a resident salary, if not a bit higher. The average salary for a medical fellow is $48,306 per year. The lowest salaries for this profession are around $25,364 per year, while the highest salaries can reach up to $92,000 per year.

Prescription writing is a task that physicians perform many times a day. As a medical student, you will start writing prescriptions under the supervision of a resident or attending physician. You do not have prescribing privileges therefore all your prescriptions will need to be co-signed by a licensed physician.

MDs generally focus on treating specific conditions with medication. On the other hand, DOs tend to focus on whole-body healing, with or without traditional medication. They generally have a stronger holistic approach and have been trained with additional hours of hands-on techniques.

In the US medical degrees needed to become a doctor (physician) come from medical school. The college degree obtained before medical school can be in nearly any field of study.

Secondary Applications

Some schools send all of their applicants a secondary. Others go through an initial cut that is usually based entirely on GPA and MCAT scores. Unless you've decided not to apply to that school, you should complete and return each secondary application as you receive it.

A very rough breakdown of percentages you may anticipate up to this point are approximately 25-40% of our applicants will receive a secondary; of those secondaries, we will likely interview ~50%; of those interviews, we will likely accept under 50% including those taken off the waitlist.

Secondaries typically arrive two to four weeks after a medical school receives your primary application.

Not all schools screen before sending secondary applications, but those that do screen tend to evaluate your GPA, MCAT scores, and your primary application materials before deciding whether or not to send a secondary application. Letters of recommendation aren't usually a deciding factor at this stage.
